What is your role at tlc?
? I am responsible for overseeing Major Works, Insurance Claims as well as Insurance Premium Renewals. The primary includes managing larger scale projects known as qualifying works; this includes anything from full external repairs and redecorations, roof renewals, lift replacements, internal refurbishment and anywhere in between. When it comes to the insurance claim I enjoy the element of the unknown. Identifying the cause, establishing where the damage has come from and negotiation with insurers is favourable to my competitive nature. Then there is the insurance renewals which speaks for itself. Making sure cover is in place for all aspects relevant to individual buildings which typically include buildings, terrorism and management liablity cover with the odd engineering schedule thrown in.
What is your background?
A family of tradesmen. My grandad is somehow still a decorator having hit the 80+ mark, my dad owns a construction company specialising in loft conversions and building development. I also have a brother who is a qualified carpenter and another who is a landscaper. Although I didn’t follow the practical path, I have learned a lot about the trades. Climbing scaffolding as a child, watching, asking questions and earning pocket money as a “labourer” gave me a baseline understanding which I can now utilise in my role on the larger projects.
What values drive you?
In my opinion assertiveness and honesty go hand in hand and I believe that combining the two can be incredibly impactful. Sure, it can also have its' setbacks but you can always walk away, right or wrong, having stood your ground and spoken your mind from an honest perspective.
What are your objectives for tlc over the next 12 months?
Digging deeper into the accuracy of my role. The insurance renewals are the latest addition and with so many variables to consider I want to start looking at any and all matters that could help or hinder a policy. This will mean site inspections and document analysis to ensure proposed cover is as accurate as possible; ensuring the buildings, directors and leaseholders have cover that is tangible to the building in which they have a vested interest.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
Exactly that, being outside! Whether it is walking the dog, nature trails with the kids searching for the elusive woodpecker, bike rides down the towpath or fishing as the sun rises and sets, for me you cant beat being outdoors. Spending time with family and friends is also very important to me so a BBQ at my parents place around the firepit is never to be missed
What is your favourite song?
Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts
What is one thing that might surprise people about you?
Apparently my artistic skill when it comes to carving pumpkins is something that people do not expect.
If you could be any animal, what would you be?
I would choose Wild Dog but according to my mates holistic wife I would be a Heron! Curiously, we checked the facts and they were quite accurate.
What are three things on your bucket list?
Completed it!
