Earls Court Square is described in many historical journals as an ‘afterthought’! Its builder, Edward Francis, originally planned to merely extend Kempsford Gardens in 1873 to the Earls Court Road. Mid-way through this construction, though, he ‘thought again’ and thank goodness he did! Whatever he ate for breakfast that morning 138 years ago means this princely garden square is here today. The square’s architecture consists of three sides white stucco with the South side being grade 2 listed Flemish-style red brick, which you could easily find in the heart of Bruges or Amsterdam. There are also three handsome red brick mansion blocks located on the South-West and East sides.
